VET Applied Fashion- 2nd Year
REDESIGNED GARMENT
-
The focus of this Unit is to build the students understanding of environmentally sustainable work practices.
-
Students investigated the impact a piece of clothing has on the environment, for example its carbon footprint.
-
Students discussed the choices fashion designers and consumers have on minimising their negative impact.
-
Students redesigned a wedding dress (kindly donated by Sunset Bridal) or other garment as a solution to minimise waste and extend the lifecycle of the garment.
1st GARMENT
-
This Unit involves students following the design process to gain a greater understanding of the Role of the Designer.
-
Students are introduced to the design process as the major tool in engaging in the creative process and to explore innovative approaches in fashion design and pattern production. Students create their own design brief to define the design requirements and researched examples for inspiration.
-
Students generate and develop a range of design option ideas
-
Students were introduced to drafting and flat pattern methodologies for block development using the quarter scale block.
-
Students developed construction skills to produce a garment
WEARABLE ART GARMENT
-
Some students did not have a sewing machine during the Lockdown period and therefore were provided with relevant curriculum to create a Wearable Art garment
-
Students explored their home, researching what items they could use - with consideration for sustainability, they were encouraged to only use what was in their home.
-
Students produced creative design options and then made their Wearable Art garment and were encouraged to consider different techniques to join items together.
2nd GARMENT
-
Students consolidated their skills and knowledge of sewing expertise in the construction of a second garment using sewing machines and overockers
-
Students learn how to operate, re-thread and make basic adjustments to sewing machinery. Students developed further skills in construction
