“Connection”
This series of paintings aims to portray connectedness through the bonds and emotions connecting humans and the natural world. Each painting within the series celebrates a different emotion experienced by people when effected by nature and the elements, reflected in the colours and symbolism of each piece. The blue ocean painting represents empowerment and confidence, in a non-arrogant and humbling way. The blue is a calming tone, complementing the rolling waves splashing against the rocks, with the proud figure standing above. The green forest painting symbolises peace and clarity, and displays a moment of connection and empathy, and being in tune with nature and oneself as a whole, not a pair. Green is an active and creative colour, representing the activity of the mind as it finds inner harmony. The yellow field painting is about relaxation and happiness, being present in a single moment in time and enjoying ones being. The yellow in this painting is a bright and happy colour, and relates to energy.

“Communication”
The wire honey bee sculpture is representative of connectedness, through the specific example of communication. I was fascinated and inspired by the ways honeybees communicate through chemical messages called pheromones. To symbolise this in the sculpture, wool was hung from the bee and attached to a branch. The use of an organic material such as wool, worked as a link to nature when portraying this form of communication. The use of wire was also relative to the fragile and skeletal like structure of insects, and relates quite literally to the theme of connectedness, as the process of wire sculpting requires the wire to be linked and connected to one another.
