JAMES FREWEN “Bloodflow” This artwork is my interpretation of a modern day horror movie poster, involving elements of what I enjoy and what I believe to be unsettling in a horror movie poster.
The artwork has taken inspiration from film posters such as Fede Álvarez’s 2016 ‘Don’t Breathe’ film poster, and how many modern horror movie posters involve a simple central character with darkness surrounding them, centralising the main character. This artwork was made simply as a means to unsettle those who look at it, and to make a characterisation of modern horror. A3 Semi-gloss print paper
JAMES FREWEN “Fallout” This artwork displays a character in a Cold War styled gas mask, being an interpretation of an 80’s style thriller movie with an antagonist for a main character.
I had taken inspiration from Russian GP-5 gas masks for this artwork. I began by drawing and sketching many different gas mask designs, but I decided that the one that fit the style I was going for the most was the GP-5. This was chosen due to the unsettling style of the hood and soulless eye sockets that cover the eyes and any emotion. The emotionlessness of the artwork was something that I wanted to achieve, because I believe that an antagonist with no motive for the acts that they do is the scariest and most dangerous type of villain.
