Tension
My artwork focuses on the physical emotions endured during sleep; concentrating on stress and anxiety. Through the prominent veins and muscles from the fist being formed so tight, I would like the audience to see the emotion captured within the tensity of the sculpture. I hope the audience is able to have their own personal interpretation as to what particular emotion/s may be expressed as this creates a personal connection between the audience and their own sleep experiences. Every individual processes emotion differently, some may perceive this artwork as having angry, outward emotion expressed. Others may see an anxiety filled sculpture where emotion is supressed, with veins and muscles wanting to burst, but can not from being paralysed by sleep. The interpretation of anger and anxiety as an uncontrollable reaction in our sleep can also be seen, as most of our actions when we sleep are sporadic and usually we do not remember doing them once we wake up.

Slumber Struggle
This painting focuses on the contrast between the sleeping and waking state and how the frustration of being unable to fall asleep can impact an individual. I would like the audience to be able to have their own interpretation and ideas. The warmth of the colors on the left canvas contrast the cool colors on the right canvas, being symbolic of the feeling of warmth whilst sleeping versus the cold and uncomfortable feelings sometimes felt during struggled sleep. Whilst the middle canvas has the prominent feature of gaps in one’s dreaming, highlighting the fragility of the border between being awake and being asleep. My continuous line drawing technique present in all three canvases can be seen as an entanglement of emotions during sleep, hopefully intriguing some audiences to feel overwhelmed and/or uncomfortable from the commotion of lines.
