PHOEBE BROOKS
“Little Grimm’s Parallels” This artwork uses small characters drawn on the glass on photo frames rather than on the photos themselves to convey the different layer of reality or a ‘parallel’ reality that contains the supernatural/ story time characters.
The title ‘Little Grimm’s Parallels’ refers to the reoccurring character of the baby/small grim reaper, the character is re-occurring throughout the three frames to tie the three works together for the audience as they can create their own story to what’s happening. The design of the characters is small and ‘cute’ this also for the audience as they aren’t scary or off-putting but instead invoke curiosity. The lack of colour in the illustrations are to further highlight that it is a different layer of reality. Black picture frames, glass, posca white paint pens, iPhone X camera 20 X 30cm - 30.48 X 30.48cm - 40.6 X 30.5cm
PHOEBE BROOKS “Divisions of Night and Day” This artwork focuses on the spiritual and lighter side of the occult, with the dream catchers relating to the believes that originated with Native American people that they protected children form bad dreams and nightmares. The design of the dream catchers incorporates the sun and moon as they are the sources of life and spirituality.
Using dry point etching, I was able to create soft facial features and detail while still communicating a calming and enticing qualities. The lack of colour in the pieces are to allow the design not to get lost in the colour and the addition on the golden sun helps communicate the transition from sun to moon, day to night. Printing ink, printing press, etching acetate, etching needle, Fabriano paper, black foam board. 30 X 42 cm x 3
